I went to an event at the Venice Gardens Community Center on Shamrock Blvd. yesterday Feb 1. Foot traffic was very light and even not many vendors were there. It's pretty early in this half of the season.
I did pretty well because of repeat customers coming in looking for the next book. Readers like to get to know the author and will stop and chat. It make me so happy when I hear personally how much they liked a book and want to purchase another one.
One comment I hear over and over is the readability of my books. I use 12pt print with 1.15 spacing. I figure if I can't read it, no one else can. I also don't write very long books, usually around 50000 words or so. I'm not following the industry norm. I write to what my readers want.
Every once in a while I post where I'll be for the next few months so readers can plan were to find me. I have an authors Facebook page. I post there everyday. sometimes about what is going on in my life, where I'm going, how my next book is come or that I'm stuck in my writing. I want my readers to know me as a person.
